Getting Started with Data Sync

Leadership TeamLeadership Team

iDataWorkers Data Sync connects your existing systems — Oracle Cloud, Slack, Jira, PostgreSQL, Google Ads, and more — into one unified data layer. No more manually exporting CSVs or juggling API scripts. This tutorial walks you through connecting your first source and verifying the data lands in Data Hub.

What You Will Learn

  • How to navigate the Data Sync dashboard
  • How to add a new connector and authenticate
  • How to map fields and start your first sync
  • How to verify data in Data Hub

Prerequisites

  • An active iDataWorkers account — sign up free
  • Credentials for one data source (e.g., a Slack workspace token or a PostgreSQL connection string)

Step 1: Open Data Sync

From the iDataWorkers sidebar, click Data Sync. You will see a list of available connectors grouped by category: Databases, Cloud Apps, Collaboration, and Advertising.

Tip: If you do not see your source listed, check the Integrations Marketplace — new connectors are added regularly.

Step 2: Add a Connector

Click + New Connection and choose your source. For this walkthrough we will use PostgreSQL as an example.

Fill in the connection details:

Host: db.example.com
Port: 5432
Database: analytics_prod
User: readonly_user
Password: ••••••••

Click Test Connection. A green checkmark confirms the credentials are valid.

Step 3: Map Your Data

After connecting, Data Sync shows the available tables and entities. Select the ones you want to sync — for example, orders, customers, and products.

For each entity you can:

  • Rename fields to match your internal naming conventions
  • Exclude columns you do not need (e.g., internal IDs)
  • Set a sync schedule — real-time, hourly, or daily

Step 4: Start the Sync

Click Start Sync. Data Sync begins pulling records into Data Hub. You can monitor progress in the Sync Activity panel — it shows rows synced, errors (if any), and estimated time remaining.

Tip: For large initial imports, choose off-peak hours to reduce load on your source system.

Step 5: Verify in Data Hub

Navigate to Data Hub. Your new data source appears in the left sidebar. Click it to browse records, preview fields, and confirm everything arrived correctly.

From here you can:

  • Open Visualization Studio to build a dashboard
  • Ask Cognify a question about the data
  • Let Copilot Dexi surface anomalies automatically

Conclusion

You have successfully connected your first data source. Data Sync handles the ongoing synchronization — you focus on the insights. Next, try the Cognify Quickstart to start asking questions about your newly synced data.
